We had a good, but brief, meeting talking about the training that we're going to do in the village. It's a small village (here is a link so you can see it from on high: UPNG to Hisiu village).
It’s going to be
quite hard to use the training that we use with university students with people with a below high school education,
who don’t know how to “cram” lots of information into their heads like
uni students can . They're primarily oral learners, and who don’t speak English or Tok Pisin (PNG Pidgin) - they speak
Motu and Jasmine (our staff) may be the only one in our group that can possibly understand them (unless they speak English).
They have
learned to read and "study" English in primary school (all text books are in English), so at least that's a start. We plan to give them papers written in English and teach in English, but to have the 4 main points of the Knowing God Personally booklet (a Gospel tract that we use)
translated into Motu so that they can memorize them before our sharing/witnessing time. And we'll go slower - teach a 40 minute session in an hour - to give some time for discussion among themselves to help them all understand what we're teaching. All the teachers (9 sessions) are PNG staff or students. We
also don’t know where they can witness because we aren’t sure there is a
market place. Anyway, should be interesting!
Elton and Jasmine stayed and joined me for lunch. Then Elton stayed behind and we had a great time
together. I asked him to come with me
tomorrow to the Grand Papua Hotel (to wrestle with our invoice from
March). More on that tomorrow! And tomorrow we meet with the students!
Bula Dan!! Great to read of your adventures, and that you have kept your 'cool' all the way! Very fun reading your blog. Matt should be with you now so say hi from us. We'll try and keep up with your travels and will be remembering you in prayer. Awesome time ahead. Loloma to all staff from all of us in Fiji.
ReplyDeleteBy the way what is URL???
Dan, I'm reading your blog and praying for you. It is great to read it and know what to pray for. This looks like a good time for a Pentecost miracle. God will see that they understand in some way. The students will do their best and the rest is up to Him. I don't usually comment and I'm not sure how to select the right profile, so I'll be anonymous, but I am really your sister, Barb.
