Waiting for Elijah's church to start (he's 2nd from left) |
Last night we divided up the Australians (and myself) amongst the PNG staff & students for church this morning. So, 5 of us went to Elijah's church (2nd from left) - Cornerstone Gateway Church (AOG) in Gordons (a suburb of Port Moresby). The first service was from 8 to 10, and our service was 10 to 12 (actually 12:40). While we were waiting for the previous service to let out, we found someone to take our picture - then, in the spirit of technology, we blue-toothed it to each other!

The service was great - definitely focused on Jesus from the start. When we went in, the man up front was already praying (with a keyboard playing in the background) - he was honoring Jesus for who he is (king of kings & Lord of Lords). Then after a few minutes (after the music team got their instruments connected) a lady came up front and lead several songs - but there was no break in the music between the prayer and the lady - or between any of the songs that we sang for the next hour! And there was no talking except for early praying. The only problem for me was that we were by the sound speaker and so I can't hear very well out of my right ear :-).

The church was a large one - 600-700 , every seat full - they asked the kids to come up front for the sermon so that the adults standing in the back could find a seat.
Before the sermon, the preacher asked for all visitors to raise their hands. We didn't, but then he saw us (2 white faces) and said, "I see 2 Aussie visitors" (I was Aussie for a couple hours) - some of our group heard it on the radio and thought wouldn't that be funny if that was our group - I'm a famous Aussie :-).
Tomorrow we're going back on campus. Thanks for praying!
